Hello there! Its week 8 and of course I’m late! The wonderful and compassionate leader creator and organizer of the One Room Challenge gave us an extra 2 weeks to finish our projects and boy did we need it!

▪︎
We just finished painting Friday night, got the doors rehung yesterday morning and putting the new knobs and pulls on yesterday afternoon, followed by a blitz of cleaning and styling this morning.

Its been a rough 8 weeks. Everything took way longer than we thought it would and emotionally and physically its been a lot of wear and tear on us two old ladies.
Last week was the 9th anniversary of my dad’s passing and the seasonal grief has been tough this year. Physically its been exhausting. Early mornings and working till dark every day. We’ve both had some meltdowns and tears in our beds at night, but we both soldiered through and it really is a beautiful makeover! Mum loves it, but she says she’s relieved its done! And so am I!

The kitchen does feel so much bigger and brighter now! Its like walking into a brand new space! The board and batten in the family room makes such a big statement. We noticed it right away before anything else was done, that the rooms both felt taller and wider with just that detail. The kitchen being the heart of our home, the whole house has taken on a fresh new personality!

We debated over whether to add color to the cabinets, but the more I looked for inspiration the more I was convinced that white on white was the best way to go for us.
▪︎

▪︎
I love how the light blue rugs, and our old khaki sofa both look prettier and more vivid with the white background. And we can go any color direction we want to in the future, because the white will love anything we use with it!
▪︎

▪︎
We’ve had the brushed nickel knobs and pulls for 5+ years so it was beyond time to put them on! We love how they go with our canisters and the gorgeous new stainless steel sink! The new sink is about 4 inches deeper than our old one and we’re loving it!

There’s more that I wanted to do in the family room, but there will be time for finishing touches in there later. And of course I wanted to wallpaper and board and batten in our entryway, but thats another story for a later time. Hopefully not too much later, but we need some time to rest and get our weekly routine back.

I was thinking about this the other day, our little Toby was 4 months old on Nov 27th. That means that a full half of his life has been spent in rehab, kitchen rehab, but I’m sure the stress we’ve been feeling and the house being upside down hasn’t been as much fun as a little dachsund puppy might want in his life. I’m hoping we can spend a little extra quality time with him now and really cherish him.

You can probably tell from the tone of this post that I’m feeling tired and a little deflated. Even so, the kitchen makeover is done and it turned out beautifully, even better than I imagined, and I’m looking forward to walking into it every morning for my cup of tea and a chat with mum. Speaking of mum, she really worked so, so hard and did some amazing things on this one! I love her so much and I’m so grateful for her!

Marianne, you should be so proud of what you and Mum have accomplished here! I know it must’ve been exhausting and emotionally draining, especially with the loss of your dad a year ago. Bravo on a superb job with this! Enjoy your cup of tea now!
We appreciate your kind comments so much Chrissy! Thank you and we’d love to have you join us for tea anytime💙
