Become the Laughter

When my dad was alive we used to laugh all the time.  Dad loved puns and always told the oldest and goofiest puns in the world!

Since he passed we’ve been in a little bit of a laughter dryspell. We still tell his old puns, but it’s with a little bit of bittersweet.  And it turns out that my poppa gave us a very special gift with his lovely, silly, sweet humor. Laughter is very good medicine. We all know I think that it eases stress and lightens the soul, but there are also some very significant health benefits and new scientific discoveries about laughter as well.

Here are just a few of the health benefits of Laughter:

  • It stimulates the heart and circulatory systems
  • Helps relax muscles
  • Stimulates the release of endorphins
  • Aids digestion
  • Relieves pain
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Heightens memory and creativity
  • Increases T cell production and immunity
  • Changes your DNA!

Yes that’s right! Laughter can actually change who you are by changing your DNA! Laughter is a stimulant and it works by triggering energy inside DNA and changing your genetics and potentially even leading to cures for diseases like cancer. Scientists also believe that just like other personality traits and habits, laughter is passed on to our children through our DNA.

Many people enjoy daily laughter therapy, and because it increases T cell counts and immunity, laughter is even being used to treat cancer.  One study found that just by viewing one comedy show a day, at risk heart patients lowered their blood pressure, increased their immunity and significantly lowered their risk of heart attack.  Even false or forced laughter brings health benefits.

All this makes so much sense when you think about it.  We were created by the happy God who wants us to rejoice and be joyful!  So laugh my friends!  Find the happy, funny, joyful, sweet things in your day and laugh!  Laugh and giggle and snort and chortle and live long and change your DNA as often as possible!

Much love,

Marianne
