Oh yassss!  We’re done! Well almost done, there’s still the mother of pearl tile to frame the mirror and a couple of paint touch ups, but those can wait a little bit, while we recharge and rest from our labors.

Still Need a little paint touch up, right up there☝ and the mirror still needs to be framed.

It’s been a fun and challenging 6 weeks! Even though we got started late our guest bath looks so much prettier then it did before and I’m so glad we were able to join in.  There were so many fun projects and some not so fun challenges over the 6 weeks. Health issues and real life broke in to delay things, but we didn’t give up. Mum is my rock and I couldn’t have finished it without her help and support. With lots of prayer, rolling everything on God’s shoulders and feeling his gracious comfort and energy help us keep going was a wonderful blessing.

Loving our new navy and white!
Loving our new navy and white!

We had been stalking navy and white bathrooms for months and really everything started with our navy oops paint.  Being used to light colored walls the dark navy was a little scary at first, but it turned out beautifully!

Our inspiration bathrooms included paneled walls, ship lap, some boho and lots of white, so we did our version of all that too.

Lots of beautiful inspiration has given a little french bohemian flair to our little guest bath.

The ideas we found for updating the lighting really didn’t work for us, so we’re sticking with the old frosted glass shades for now. BUT we changed out the old florescent bulbs for new daylight led bulbs and the quality of light is just amazing!! Such an easy yet profound fix!

Hanging the glass door was an interesting challenge, but figuring it out was so worth it!
Hanging the glass door was an interesting challenge, but figuring it out was so worth it!

Through some trial and error we figured out how to hang the glass door over the shower/tub, and although it’s not for keeping water in, it really does add such a pretty touch.  Its kind of like adding a window in where there was none before, and it feels very french for some reason! Ouiiiii (yassss)!!

New, pretty and efficient storage!
New, pretty and efficient storage!

We’ve got less going on but lots more storage then we had before. This little room feels so much more open now, because there are no shelves and no cabinets happening on the walls and over the mirror, but we actually have more storage now. And with the new dresser and medicine cabinet it’s so much easier to access everything than before the makeover.

So open and fresh feeling!

Our guest bath is also much more organized and less chaotic now.  The new white paneling, sink cabinet and trim add some much needed brightness and uniformity. In contrast, the navy makes such a classy color statement without being overwhelming in this small space.

White helps unify and brighten the whole room!

We decided to purchase a new cordless brad nailer to help with the trim, and I’m in LOVE! It was awesome! It saved time and effort and it’s possibly my favorite thing in the world right now next to coffee and my bed!

Except for a few items, most of our purchases were from Amazon.com, Target and Lowes. Here’s the cost breakdown of our guest bath makeover: Oops paint $9, 2 rugs $16, switch and electric plates $12, thrifted small dresser $15, covered basket $3.50 and mother of pearl tissue cover $1.19, hardware for hanging the glass door $13, new clock from Decorsteals.com $21, 2 panels $36, new daylight led bulbs $10, Command Strips knob for clock $3.99.

Pretty decor found shopping the house, helped us save money on this makeover.

We saved money by shopping the house and garage and we already had the white paint, glass door, trim, glass knobs, medicine cabinet, round mirror and decor items.

Mixing old and new, used and found items, brings a great new look!

Additional costs to finish the mirror frame project: 5- 12×12 mosaic mother of pearl tiles and mirror clips $55.  The one thing I might add to my project list is to take a pencil to the paneling and draw in the lines again! Haha!

Before the ORC Challenge makeover photos are on the left, and After the ORC Challenge makeover photos are on the right.
“Before” the ORC makeover photos are on the left, and “after” photos are on the right. Notice how beautifully different the lighting is with the new daylight led lightbulbs too!

For such a small room, less than 5×8, it took lots of hard work to transform our guest bathroom, and we’re looking forward to the weekend, a few days of light duty and naps, but you know I’m already looking for inspiration for the next ORC One Room Challenge coming next spring! We might have to tackle something a little bigger next time!

Thank you friends for stopping by and checking in on us! Y’all have fun and be good!

Much love,

Mum and Me

  1. Hurray for finishing!!! You and your mom added so many beautiful touches! I absolutely love the window “door” to the shower, it is gorgeous! The navy and all of the other “bling” give the space so much pizzazz! Congrats on a beautiful job well done!

    1. Awww!! Thank you so much Kari!! I’m so glad you love the door! It was one of those things that I could just “see” in my head, but I had trouble wrapping my brain around how to actually “do” it! Lots of prayer and Jah is so good at helping brain cells work!🙏
